This is the latest attempt in an industry effort to accommodate consumer tastes in different parts of the world: Consumers in China say they hate the new car smell.“Unpleasant interior smell/odor remains the top industry problem in that market,” said Brent Gruber, senior director, global automotive, at J.D. Power. “To put that in context, it is nearly double the problem rate of the second most prevalent problem, excessive fuel consumption.”
How can people in the developed parts of China that can afford new cars, smell anything with all the smog and pollution in those same areas?
I wonder what part of new stuff is so offensive to them.
But I suppose that Ford has to listen to the market...it can be a goldmine in sales if they can get past the smell thing.
Hey, maybe my older Ford Escape would freak them out even more. I've put dead deer, turkeys and fish in the back, spilled gear oil from hauling transmissions, lost some french fries and hamburger pickles, and other stinky stuff that would make a new car smell like a bouquet of orchids in comparison.

My first thought when I saw the headline was, what's the world coming to? First they decide to quit building cars, then they want to take away the only reason to buy one.
Can you imagine the factory workers over there making them, when they learn what the English words on the package say?
They must think we are nuts.
