My first post guys. I bought a 16 F250 I did a EGR delete. I removed the sensor from from the EGR pipe and installed one of the EGT sensors from the DPF . My question is why did I have to change the sensor? Is the ECU still looking at it ? I’m running a tuner for the deletes
I think what you are saying is you took a EGT sensor from the DPF and installed it in one of the block off plates? If that's the case, that sensor will give your tuner and EGT reading at that location.
Thanks for the reply
Yes that’s what I did but I can’t read the temp any where . I have a SCT GTX but it’s not reading it . It’s running fine Now I did buy SCT 9817 pyro kit It’s a kit for EGT I plan on installing it in my down pipe. My question is why would I have to remove a sensor from the DPF and plug it into a connection which I believe is turned off in the tune anyway. If putting that sensor there is irrelevant .... I wonder if I put the SCT 9817 pyro kit there if it would be the same as putting it in the down pipe ? If that block off plate is blocking a section that is between the turbo and downpipe it should be seeing the same thing.
I'm not familiar with the SCT, but there may be certain things needed to be done to read the sensor by the SCT. It may take a proprietary sensor (like the 9817 pyro kit that you bought) in order to read EGTs. A lot of guys only read it at the block off plate. The temps will cool as they go through the exhaust. In theory, the EGT is worst at the plate. Plus most people don't have a bung on the down pipe to install an temp probe. Those that do, usually plug it with a plug or a EGT probe that is monitored or not.
I also have the SCT GTX. In order to read the sensor you have to find it in the menu and change the units it reads in. I believe mine was like sensor 7 (maybe even had a color reference as well) or something. (I am not near my truck or I would go look for you).
Just out of curiosity, are you having any issues with the display on the GTX freezing up? Mine does it more than I would like. I called SCT and they ran an update on it, but it didn't help much...
Thanks guys
ok so block off plate should be the highest temp in the whole system. I will put it there . You are correct they actually Collett a fire wire in the menu they have a yellow option and a red option. The red option works for me . As far as it freezing I have not had any issues. This is my first diesel and a little nervous about doing all of this but really focusing on the longevity of the trucks not so much looking to bump a bunch a horse power but really looking to make it last.
like I mentioned I’m using a SCT GTX I’m using their EGT pyro kit 9817 the probe is mounted to the EGR block off. At first the temps seems low. I called SCT tech I took the module out, then reinstalled it. SCT told me they were aware of some probes not reading correctly. Not sure if tech did anything more then likely removing the module reset it. Temps seem to be ok now Idle after warm up 550-600 . When I got in the throttle I saw 700-750. So far very happy with the tune and delete. I know there are two side of this but the whole regen thing and EGR clogging I just don’t want to deal with. The way my truck is driven is more stop and go then open highway runs. Which is hard on the EGR and DPF. I have already seen a 2 mile per gal increase.
I ended up installing a stand alone egt gauge. Banks said more than likely ez lynk is commanding the egr circuit to work by itself because if the truck was broadcasting the signal it would pick it up. I opted not to buy banks egt add on because of cost. I have both the stand alone egt gauge and the banks gauge in the banks double window suction cup mounting pod.
