I need some help. My 91 ford explorer 2-door 4.0 went down. I noticed it wouldn't start until it cranked about 5 seconds for about a week. then I loaned my dad my battery for his truck and when I put my battery back in with new clamps it wouldnt start and I don't hear the fuel pump in the tank anymore so I figured it was the fuel pump.then I sprayed starting fluid right in the throttle body and it started and died immediately so I knew then no fuel.I checked the fuse in the power distribution box and it was good so I came to the conclusion fuel pump. My question is did anyone else ever replace theirs? what did it cost? any special tools? I never did a project like this I always took 'em to shops and did it the lazy way but I'm pretty broke now and have to do this myself so I'm gonna need all the help I can get. thanks for any help.
theres not much room, but if you get in there anything is possible youll have to take the fan and shroud off to get in there, its diferent here in cali though i think..more smog junk and vacuum..

WHAT???
Mrbeefy...You said that it had to crank a while before it would start at first which leads me to think that your fuel pump RELAY may be bad. Do you have a guage for oil press or a light?
I found the problem it was the power relay to the power distribution box that was unplugged. the pump is in the tank not on the engine like older vehicles it is nowhere near the fan or shroud. thanks for the suggestions guys But I found it.
Welcome to FTE .
Glad that you got it fixed. Sorry for the bad info that you recieved, that doesn't happen very often.
I hope that you enjoy the site.
