Lost communication with glow plug control module

Check engine light came came on the morning of departure from Pinnacles National Park in California.
I plugged in my scanner and got a "Lost communication with glow plug control module."
Engine ran good - no problems whatsoever. So off I went.
Several hundreds of miles later, when time permitted, I took it to the dealership.

Dealership replaced Glow Plug control module. (They had to Fedex overnight the part). Problem not fixed. Began troubleshooting.
Found broken wire in right front wheel well (behind wheel well cover). Attributed it to rat chewing through it.
Cost to repair: $998.00

According to service tech they had seven hours of troubleshooting into it.
The only part kit listed on the invoice was for shrink tubing. I assume that they did not replace the wire harness.

I have since filed an insurance claim (comprehensive insurance with $50/ deductible) for damage to the truck.
After talking with several insurance people, the rat damage is quite common.
So. . .heads up if something like this happens to your truck, it's pretty easy to remove the wheel well cover and inspect the wiring.
It could save some money and time if you do it.

The wire sheath in a lot of the wiring in modern vehicles is soy based. Critters eat that stuff up. The genius that came up with that should be thrown into a pit of starving rats.

I use my truck to RV too. I had a critter (probably a squirrel or chipmunk get up under the hood of my 2006 6.0 before. He chewed up a bunch of the insulation under the right side battery. My dad has a 2006 6.0 and RV's with it as well. Working on it once I found a bunch of Cornnuts in the valley of the engine. Obviously someone made the mistake of putting their food stash in a mobile location.
