Culprit Identified

Well, that's a burned exhaust valve! Are the intake valves still stamped with "FoMoCo?" If not, when did they start and stop?

Not awful, actually. The machine shop just called and said the head is in good shape and that they can rebuild it with new valves and springs and a little machining!

And hardened valve seats too if it doesn't already have them would be a good idea.
