I think one of my fuel pumps is bad, I get really slow starts. Wondering how to drop the tanks or whether taking off he bed would be easier? I’m gonna be getting body work done to the bed because I have rust everywhere, however from a restoration standpoint taking the bed off would be a little smarter. Just tying to weigh my options between the two.... also, are there any wires mounted to the bed underneath the truck?
Taking off the bed is the best way. I think the taillights are the only connections. You can rent for free a fuel pressure tester at most auto parts stores to check your pumps. I did mine in the parking lot to avoid all the paperwork. Sandy
I've done a fuel pump with the bed on and it was not at all easy so I would recommend to take off the bed. Laying underneath the truck trying to shimmy the tank out while trying my best to not have it fall on me was NOT fun.

Since you know the difference in difficulty then you have pulled the bed off also. Do you remember any other wires other than taillights?

I haven't pulled the bed off. I am just recommending it because I assume it to be easier than the way I did it. Most of the wires run along the frame rail so there shouldn't be other wires besides the tail lights on the bed unless previous owners did some modifications.
