1963 ford 223 - trying to remove manifold with engine in truck. Got all bolts out and pried about 1/4 inch out of head - got some wiggle but can't get the manifold off? Any tricks or advice?
I am not up on that year / size motor.
Is the intake & exh. manifolds bolted together?
If so you may want to unbolt the head pipe from the manifold this way the manifolds should just pull off.
This would also work on good old plan exh. manifolds as the pipe could be holding the manifold.

See upper pic: The intake manifold is bolted to the exhaust manifold, which is very prone to cracking. If the manifold cracks, a replacement is very hard to find!
Well, I pains me to admit but F-ONE just posted a picture of my problem. At least I had the good sense to not beat on it! It’s amazing how easy that manifold comes off when you remove ALL the bolts! Thanks gentlemen! This forum and your collective wisdom and advice is a lifesaver!
Got everything off - obviously burnt exhaust valve on one cylinder and likely bad stem seals on a couple more. The head is now at the machine shop and I’m hoping it can be rebuilt.
