I joined the "bump" side this weekend with the purchase of this '72 F250 highboy. All original with a 360 and 4 speed. Spent its life in western Colorado. I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions in the future as I'm used to the 73-79 trucks. Looking forward to digging into it. Runs and drives well just needs some small things. I plan on driving it just the way it is.
Jon, welcome to the bumpside community! You'll get plenty of help from any of us on here, don't be bashful in asking anything! Congrats on your new toy!
It's a manual winch. I don't have the hand crank for it but supposedly it's geared low enough so that not much man power is needed to pull things. The guy I bought it from said his grandpa used it to pull elk out of the timber and possibly even pulled the truck out of the mud a couple times.
FordIowan i think that Mike and Frank have such a cool job. it would be nice to find stuff like they do, but i would go in the hole so fast. if i found some thing awesome and i would not want to sell it. even i know that i should.

The show is fake. When the pickers visit places, they are scouted out beforehand by a crew of appraisers and then if found worthy, the potential sellers receive a tax form.
What you see is two people in a van, but there's a caravan...a camera crew in one vehicle, the appraisers in another and several more people in a U-Haul truck.
I think for now I'm just going to put a nice set of wheels and good tires on it and drive it. It runs, drives and shifts good. The only rust is in the bottom of the front fenders and the body is pretty straight. A friend of mine said I should just put some satin clear on it and leave it. If I do repaint it at some point, I'll put it back to the original blue color that's still in the interior. I'll probably work on little things here and there but just drive it and enjoy it for now.
Sounds like a plan! I wish I had one to drive around, while I have mine tore apart! If you get bored (and have like 4 hours....LOL), you can check out my build thread on my 67, the link is in my signature below.

Ha. I have a '77 crew cab 4x4 that's tore apart in my garage too. It's all ready for paint, just waiting on the painter. I was missing having something to drive so I bought the bumpside. I will check out your thread! Thanks!
