i guess it is all a personal opinion. the main question is why he is losing mileage. there are many opinions on that as well. i know that i wont be taking out the filter when i go in for service. is there anything that says i have to use motorcraft parts? i am not sure, i guess i should read some of the paperwork.
Originally posted by AegisSailor Well, I never heard of anybody taking the filter out before going in for service. Why would you do that?
Also, I suspect that those few who claim their MAF needed cleaned because of the filter, probably used too much oil when they cleaned the filter.
Same thing I was wondering. I have my CARB sticker installed, and Ford has never asked me about any of my filters.
And I do know from experience that over oiling will hose the MAF sensor.
As I stated earlier, all my engines have K&N filters (except my lawnmower), and I have yet to see a problem. I could just be lucky, but I think I'll keep going with the K&Ns. The only vehicle I've had Dyno'd with K&N was my bike. It went from 122 rwhp to 130 rwhp. When I rebuilt that motor, cylinder wear was a non factor.

True... very true. We've heard many opinions on this, but nothing since the first post from ATCman. Maybe it's not even a problem anymore, and we are just perpetuating our own arguments/discussions on this.
Ive read posts where Ford voided warranties due to aftermarket filters like K&N being the problem of the service call.I didnt mean going in there with an empty filter housing!(some people )
So,Joe Blow goes and buys a K&N filter and over oils it.Now his truck is running like s*** because his MAF is coated with oil.Now hes got to figure out why its running this way.Or Joe Blow does not oil his enough and lets all that dirt and dust to just be sucked right thru the filter into the engine.I think I prefer not being Joe Blow and keep my factory designed filter in there.
I've had my K&N filter in for a very long time. I clean and oil it occasionally and always have a clean air housing and MAF. Never had excess dirt or dust in there.
