Talking Help! please......do i need to reset EEC?

Hello, again...........I love this forum!!!!!!!
Everyone here is always so polite and helpful.........especially KenOO. Difficult to find quality sites with quality users.

I have an 87 ranger 2.3 efi, 4spd only 86k. The truck was stalling constantly and idle poor. I unhooked IAC and there was minimal difference. It seemed to be doing nothing. Either way unplugged or plugged in, the truck wasnt holding an idle and would stall repeatedly.
I replaced the IAC and hooked it back up and same result. Could I maybe have not reset the EEC? How is that done? I had the negative battery cable unhooked while I replaced the IAC.

The idea of running codes or learning how and buying the necessary equipment, overwhelms me. However, I would like to learn my way around an engine,so i dont mind going from one thing to the next. If it is not the problem then I will have at least learned what the part is and how to replace it in the future.

I havent really checked anything else. The stalling is the worst. I can take back the IAC so im not worried, but does anyone have any recommendations on where i should look next? Should I have also have replaced the TPS along when i replaced the IAC. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank You!!!!

You may very well have a vacuum leak and/or your Exhaust Gas Recirculator (EGR) valve may not be working properly. Check all of your vacuum connections carefully - sometimes a little carburetor cleaner sprayed around will detect a problem like the engine speeding up some. There are other threads in this forum with specific step-by-step instructions on how to test your EGR.

You can also test your spark plug wires for the proper continuity as one of these that is bad or weak can cause the problem you have.

Good Luck

Russ

Did you clean any ports when the IAC was off? Have you tried pulling the codes. There should be a difference when you pull the electrical connection off the IAC.
