I bought a used 2011 F250 6.2 less than 2 years ago with 120k miles. Looks like the engine is almost dead, it is knocking badly, and mechanic has confirmed it's on its way out.
Probably because of towing while burning oil and leaking rad without topping up often enough. I may drive it until the engine craps out or fix it when I can save enough for the job.
Selling with a bad engine doesn't seem smart. I will probably be keeping the truck but selling isn't out of the question. I want to do what makes the most sense dollar-wise.
Any opinions on what to do next? Replace with junkyard engine? Remanufactured? Rebuild? Swap to diesel?
Swapping to another engine platform will probably be your most expensive option, as you'll need a lot of various other components. If you see yourself using the truck for another 5 years or more, a reman might be your best bet. If you just want to get it running for a while and save some dollars, look up some salvage engines. the 6.2L is not the easiest to find used.. but they sell below average.. as they are not needed by many...
mine has 166,000 miles and still runs fine...
search on this forum... for Flatbed Ed.. his 6.2L failed at 418,000 miles.. he had Ford install another 6.2L.. and that truck has passed 500.000 miles.
