Timmy has a good idea too, but the point is that a multimeter is really where your focus should be, especially since you own a 20 year old truck.
I have two 7 function multimeters I got for free at Harbor Freight. I've had to fix the probes a couple times because the wires are thin,but the multimeters still work just fine after several years now! They cost $5.99 normally. I carry one in my truck,. one in my trailer and have a third expensive one ($25) in the garage. A battery tester is $19.99 at Harbor Freight. I can't vouch for it as I never got one but my friend got one a year ago and says it works just fine.
