So I'm thinking of taking my haldheld scanner out of my truck and mounting the one below in. I was thinking near or under the ash tray . (which I hate, liked the cubby hole in the '00) I was wondering if anyone has down this, and has any pics. Thanks in advance.
From: I'm lost somewhere in NJ -- can someone please find me?!?!?!?
Wouldn't it get in the way of the red arrow-like device you now have under your dash? Is that some sort of security device? I've heard of the club, but I hadn't seen "the arrow" before.
Wich unit gives you greater range? The location you suggested sounds good.
I've had the handheld in there for a few years now, just looking for something new. I have no idea of how it picks up, but I know many people that own one. I suspose I could ask.
i dont have a scanner but i have a cb, basically the same thing. i have it mounted under my ashtray in my 92 f150, i have a pic of it in my gallery if you wanna see it...
I had a UHF mobile installed in my 2002 truck. I went to Bearcom, a pro. radio shop in my area to have them do the install. They did an excellent job. (The antenna was about 4 inches tall, if that) Next year sometime I'm going to have another mobile installed in my new truck.
Those BTC7 scanners are junk. Get a good mobile scanner that you have to program, so you can avoid all the crap. That 3 mile radius cop warning is a gadget. It will go off with any strong signal. At least on the 7 you can turn it off. I had to modify my old BCT2 to turn it off.
i have one of those bct7 scanners in he house, i had to take it outta the truck because inside the solder broke loose and it cuts out during a signal, so it has to "sit still" works real good after 6 years even, i'd recommend one anyday...
it does come pre-programmed, but most of the freqs. in my area were not in it, so i had to put them in.
as for that cop warning crap, just open the squelch till it breaks free and starts beeping and flashing, then lock out the freq. till it wont do it. the freq. that just got locked out is data only, at least i never heard any voice transmissions on 'em on mine.....
also have a ranger RG66 10 meter that finall went south on me last winter, gettin ready to have my new/old 148GTL Cobra beefed and stuck back in the truck soon, best antenna i've ever had was a 102" steel whip with a big big spring
lookin for a new mobile scanner now....want something big....

I've owned Radio Shack, Uniden, Sony, etc....and the BCT7 is by far the best performer of them all. Clear reception, rugged, etc. If only it had a numeric keypad....
