I've read a great deal on here about the BakFlip products (name brand and Ford brand). Most seem well received. I also like the new Lunch Eclipse, but because I have a long bed, they don't offer that for my application; so that's out. (Not uncommon nowadays; long bed trucks don't get the product coverage because short bed trucks are all the rage and a major part of the consumer market. There are still plenty of long bed trucks out there, but many are commercial trucks and not consumer DD applications).
I've just discovered that Leer has a product called the Trillogy X2T; similar concept and such. A few minor details that are different. About $325 less money than the BakFlip, so that certainly intrigues me. https://leertonneaus.com/trilogy
Anyone have one of these? Any experience pro/con? Specifically interested in the build quality of BF to Leer.
FWIW - I pull a travel trailer with my Super Duty. My Lund cover has robust latches at each corner - to open the rear of the cover, you must unlatch each side. Not a big deal unless my travel trailer is hooked up. I can't reach both latches from either side of the truck. I must "step" over the hitch or walk around the truck to get the the other latch. My Lund has a new home and I am looking at covers that can be unlatched with a single "pull" or or don't require separate latches to release the cover. I am looking at Fold a Cover and Undercover Flex.
I like the UnderCover, but it's not available in a long-bed, so that's out for me.
The Bak-Flip hard fold units have a nice system where you pull on a cable from either side, and both sides unlatch. I like that; very convenient. Until someone on the YT video pointed out that it's easy to slip a piece of metal between the rear part of the cover and top of tailgate, and then use that to pull the cable, thereby making your locked tailgate easily defeated by just popping the top up. Those covers which have two independent latches like your Lund are more secure from theft issues (not immune from theft, but more secure than those with integrated latch cables like the BakFlip.)
The Leer has a different system. I'm trying to find a local dealer that one so I can see one in person, and look at the build quality and latching system.
I would really like to hear from anyone who's had a Leer Trilogy.
I ordered an F250 LB so I'm in the same boat and looking for a cover. Here's one that I'm thinking about since they have one for a LB. Looks easy to put on an take off. Trilogy seems nice too. Do they make one for the LB?
Yes Trilogy is available in a LB! Best thing about the Leer is the price; $750 with free shipping.
The Extang is nice; just started to look it over and I like it also.
I realize there is no "perfect" cover, any more than a perfect engine, stereo speaker, rifle caliber, etc. There are always compromises to be made. I just like to hear from folks that have certain products, and then I can assess the pros/cons as they are presented. Always worth hearing other opinions; more choices = better final decision.
I was interested in the BakFlip Revolver 4, until I saw how stiff it becomes in winter with ice/snow ... Not good for me.
I also like the Extang as it has no supplemental rails; they sit ON the factory bed rails and don't need their own rails. But, while the Leer has extra rails, it also has a provision to store it upright, given FULL access to the whole bed, whereas the Extang you must remove the cover to get use of the whole 8' bed.
