Anyone have info on where to get quality replacement U-joint straps for the front driveshaft (axle end)?
Been searching around the Internet and I am getting conflicting information almost everywhere I look. I'll find the straps/bolts, but then they will say "does not fit your 2000 Excursion." But then they will show me the type that looks like miniature U-bolts with nuts and claim that it DOES fit.
I may be dumb sometimes, but I am 110% sure, without a doubt that I have the STRAPS/BOLTS, and that means the flange is THREADED. There is NO WAY the U-bolt/nut arrangement they all claim fits, actually fits (the holes would NOT be threaded if that were the case). The extra front D50 I have is the exact same way.
So, has anyone replaced these, and maybe have a part number or a link to where they got them?
That's what they look like. But every time I look that part number up nearly anywhere, it says it doesn't fit my 2000 Excursion, but I also can't find anything listed that says something DOES fit, except for the U-bolt style with nuts (which I don't have).
I swear, I am about ready to ream out the holes and go with the U-bolt style. It's a better design anyway, in my opinion.
Ubolts will fit but you have to drill out the flange, worth doing if you are going to be wheeling it as the ubolts don’t fly off when you hit them on a rock like the straps do.

my 2000 Excursion has the straps, and factory u joints still.....
Thanks for the part number. Now I just have to decide if I want to go back to factory straps or drill it out for the U-bolt style instead. Seems like the U-bolt style is much easier to deal with when you live in an area that salts the heck out of the roads...

...and is probably MUCH easier to find at the average auto parts store if there's an unexpected issue when traveling.
I'm not worried about the straps breaking. I'm worried about a repeat of what I had to go through to get these off after they are all rusted up and the little bitty bolts are rounded off and seized in place.
