I am new to the diesel world .so I'm in need of a little help . I have an 05 f350 6.0. its got studded head bolts, EGR delete kit , sct stradagy tune in it . Well a couple weeks owning this truck keep in mind the truck set for a good minute plus has been plugged in it's hole life from my understanding well I ended up dropping a valve which destroyed the head and the piston . I replaced the piston and head also checked the cam which looked good in my opinion.. once I put everything back together and drove it for a week back and forth to work last night I encountered something that has got me lost . Other than having a problem with cold starting I drove it to the store after I left work . I shut the truck off went inside for no more than 5 minutes . Came back out to leave , it took forever to start ,so I drove it home turned the truck off and couldn't get it to start .I plugged the truck back in and almost 24 hours later I came back out and it started right up . I let it run with the truck plugged in for about 30 mins, shut the truck off waited for about 20 minutes went out again and it fired right up what would couse this
The only thing that pops up on the sct tuner code wise is glow plugs module communication error to pcm .ASide intake coolant sensor low. And vehical Vin corrupted which I believe is where I put the tune back in
A bad GCPM could very easily be what's causing your hard start issue, but I don't believe that's all that's ailing your truck. That would explain having to plug it in to help it start, but I seriously don't believe that's your only issue. The SCT isn't a great code scanner. There are a couple of apps out there for a smart phone but they require an ELM adapter to plug into your OBDII port.
BTW....Welcome to FTE and the 6.0 forum. Great bunch of guys here and a LOT of very experienced help to get your truck back running right. You might also check the Ohio state forum to see if you can hook up with someone that has good diagnostic tools. The 6.0 forum moderator is also from Ohio and goes by Maxium4x4.
You need a few things to get a truck to start, oil pressure and fuel.
A hard start when the temp dips to 45 degrees where the truck wants to run could be the GPM. Since you had the truck apart and are all over the place with hard starts I would suspect a high pressure oil leak. So back to square one, we need a base line to work off of and all the information you can give us.
