ok i have a 2004 f150 5.4 the truck has long history of work perfomed on it including the dealer deleting cam phasers about 6-8 months ago. About 2 weeks ago i devolped rough idle. The only code I’m getting in for the O2 sensor bank two running rich I am on able to find the cause things I’ve done to this truck to repair it or find it ours follows I have replaced all four injectors and driver side or four coils in all four plugs after doing so is when I started having the shutter when accelerating 40-50 mph range. My rough idle will go away as soon as I start giving it gas I’ve also sprayed all my vacuum lines that I could find was starting fluid to see if there was a leak running out of ideas in areas to look I turn to you guys
I have put it on the scanner I believe it was from snap on end it didn’t show anything wrong per the mechanic that was looking at it is there anyway to test the cats without going to a muffler shop I don’t really have a welder to re-weld or anything
is there anyway to test the cats without going to a muffler shop
Remove the O2 sensors before the cats. This will throw a code but will relieve some of the backpressure so you can go for a quick test drive to see if the issue clears up.
Torque pro app $5 /android phone/ cheap bluetooth reader amazon . Look under test results to see raw counts per cly building towards cel threshold .It is better to list exact codes on here rather than interpretation . More experienced guys may come to a different conclusion .It will also give you volts on o2 sensors and tons of other readings which you can screen shot on here .
You are looking at the typical zone for misfires . Truck shifts to higher gear -- rpms ,down misfires show up . Climbing a hill also same

Hey all,
I'm having some similar issues with my 2005 F150 5.4L 3V piece of crap. was going up an incline and all of a sudden I started losing power. Then smoke was coming into my truck so I shut it down and coasted it off to a safe location. Opened the hood to find my VCT seal/grommet on the valve cover had blew out ( talked to a FORD tech and he never heard that happen before) and oil all over the passenger side motor, battery and so forth. When I say all over I mean seriously all over. Saturated everything from wire harness to firewall. Not sure why that happened out of the blue like there was to much pressure in the motor for some reason. I installed a new VCT seal/grommet. Refilled the oil. Cleaned up majority of the mess of oil everywhere. Started truck and not it has a severe miss and no low end power. I then checked all COP's, spark plugs and made sure they were dry from any oil. Still have the sever miss and no power. Also checked injectors, wire harness, COP plug connections, and fuel pressure. All checked good and fuel pressure was just about 39 psi.
I'm stumped here and need some help from anyone that can help! I'm usually really good at trouble shooting and diagnosing the issues with any car but this 5.4L piece of crap has me stumped big time. I have been reading forum after forum and it does sound common with these motors having multiple issues. Wish I would of know before I bought this truck that this 5.4 Triton piece of crap had so many issues. I love the 2005 F150 body style and room with this Supercrew but god why did they build such a crappy motor.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! ITS DRIVING ME FRICKING NUTS THATS FOR SURE. In advance thank you for anyone that can shed some light on this.
Fishing fool --- Must have been a lot of pressure to blow out that seal those things are tough . I would be doing a compression test . Then you need to see about the crankcase venting system .Filtered Air enters on pass side and is vacuumed out on drivers side ,make sure these hoses are clear ,do some testing . Pcv system is contained as a baffle in drivers side cover . I cleaned mine out when I did timing job .It sounds like a gas explosion blew seal out .I wonder if venting is clear and connected correctly .. If you didn't find it then it will probably happen again . Never heard of it before .That could start a fire .Leaking injector can cause hydro lock which can blow hole in piston /bend rod ,gas in crankcase never good .Check your oil for gas .05's had bad injectors .I replaced all of mine with new . Laying rail on dry newspaper ,turn key on none should leak .
Yes this motor is needy but there are worse , Start your own thread instead of hijacking this one .Your problem far from this one . I am concerned this could get worse and we would like to follow it ,so give us feed back . We need all info ,maint etc ,miles, stuff like turbos and superchargers can impact this a lot .Air intake modifications anything non factory . At this point we will have trouble tracking you as its not your thread .
