I've got a 2007 F150 XL regular cab 4X4
The original 4.6 has 100,000 on it. It runs fine, doesn't leak, etc..
The 4.6 is a "dog"; unless I "darn-near" have it stomped to the floor board. On I-95 trying pass from 65mph or higher; it acts like it wants to shift down to 2nd. Gear, and after all that drama, accelerates slow ( Toyota Prius trying to push me out of the passing lane ).
What possible engine swaps do you think I could do to this truck, that would be feasible?
I appreciate any input.
A friend mentioned a 5.4L swap. ( more power for sure; but has it's own basket case of "bad design" issues).
Anything else? What do y'all think?
Something wrong with it, have you checked fuel pressure? What gearing does the truck have? Anything less than 3.73 is suboptimal with this motor. As for swapping something else in, anything but another 4.6 is going to be a major project, a 2v 5.4 would be the next easiest but it's not much of an upgrade.

It seems to run fine, the plugs, coils and intake manifold are new ( another "bad design" subject for another time). About a year ago, I replaced the fuel pump control module.
I haven't checked the fuel pressure.
The axle ratios are stock; I think they are 3.55's but I'm not positive.
This issue isn't something new; the truck has always performed like this.
Man, I miss my ole '95 with the 300 inline, 5 speed manual. That truck had no issues at all passing on I-95.
These newer Ford trucks are better on MPG; but they're "soft" and nowhere as tough as the older trucks.
I dont know if your 4.6l has a throttle body for that year but my 99 was doing the same thing, and all it was is the little PCV end had a hole in it, its the tiny little rubber nipple on the back of the throttle body. good luck
