Hello to all you supercabbers,
I sure many of you have done this, so Im looking for a few build threafs.
In the wifes 79SC, we would like to transfer the carpet, seats, the plastic and other related items from a 87-96 supercab into hers. Is this a straight swap, minor modding, or better know how to weld, apolster and extensive mod work?
We are just trying to get rid of the tinny sound so we will add some sound deadening but while we are at it, might as well add some speakers back there. Where is a good place to put them? In/on the C pillar or some place else?
87-96 seats can be installed if you use the dent seat rails. Headliner will need to be modded to fit in the dent. I think that trying to install the plastic trim pieces from a bullnose will be a major task. If you replace all door and window seals, you will cut down on a lot of noise. Adding carpet all the way through the SC will cut down on noise. Adding sound deadening will lower your noise floor also. One thing to do if you remember: put a db meter on your phone and take a reading in the cab at freeway speeds before any work is done. This will be your noise floor.Take db readings when you have finished any part of your project or when your are finished so you can see exactly how much the noise has dropped in the vehicle. As for speakers, what is the plan for the rear space of the SC? You have a lot of options for speaker location.
Thank you 84espy. Just looking for the plastic and soft stuff that goes behind the front seat. Will be keeping the original front seat and hopefully the front carpet.
I would like to find an original dark green from a SC back pieces to fit in but if not, then swap in all the "stuff" from door latch around to door latch. Finding anything that is the correct color, then I'm hoping to find a paint that is correct and paint the newer pieces.
I buy this stuff on Ebay called Rattletrap. It's basically Dynomat without the huge price tag. I lined the whole floor of my '79 supercab when I fixed the floors in my truck.
