Question on Exhaust
I am looking to purchase a F450 or F450 Cab&Chassis orF550 Cab&Chassis. (6.7's) I am looking at Model years 2014, and 2015. My question is whether or not these have exhaust brakes. I am getting the feeling that 2014/2015 is on the cusp of something Ford did with the trucks regarding the exhaust brakes. I would just hate to buy a truck and wish I purchased the next model year. I will be hauling fifth wheels, and gooseneck trailers with this truck. Please educate me.

There isn't a true exhaust brake. It's more of a powertrain brake. The 2014 should have a tow/haul selection which activates the braking automatically, I don't know if it's the turbo or trans that does the braking. The 2015 would have an additional button and uses the turbo to adjust pressures and apply braking. Both systems need high RPMs, over 3k, to operate correctly.

So did Ford start the variable vane braking in 2015? Is it all 15's or did they start in mid year. I am looking at a 14 and a 15. The 15 was built in August of 14.

Yes, the 15 got a different turbo. I'm fairly certain it's all 15s. I've never heard of a mid year split. There were many upgrades beginning in 15 beyond just the turbo. There's nothing wrong with the 14, but the 15 had some improvements that most would never notice.
