My 1986 f-150 doesn’t have the high beam button and I was wondering what wire is for the high beams and how I need to do that. I know how to wire but need to know what wire it would be. There is no wire where the button is. So if anyone can help me out it would be greatly appreciated.
So you are saying there are no wires (3) down on the floor by the dimmer switch?
Maybe someone unplugged it and tucked it up behind the dash?
Any way here how it works. (Don't know wire colors)
You have 1 wire from the main head light switch that is hot when head lights are on.
You then have 2 wires out to the head lights, 1 low beam the other high beam.
The dimmer switch just switches back as forth between the 2.
You will have to find all the wires to fix this.
How does the low beams work if the dimmer switch is not wired in?

The wires should be on the left side of the steering column near the left kickpanel, where the floor switch is supposed to be. Any type of switch will have to handle the low beams also, there is only one wire coming from the headlamp switch for the headlamps, and the switch decides low beam or high beam.
