I've been wondering.....which is better, drum or disc brakes? I think the answer is disc. And if so, should I convert my 3/4 ton rear drums to disc. And, again, if so, is it possible? What could I expect to pay for that? I don't know the exact year of this rear end but I think it's a late 70's model. It's on a 77 F150 but its not the original rear end. I'd appreciate some input on this idea.
Yes, it's possible. Discs have a quicker braking action at first, but drums last longer. I'm pretty sure it's costly. I would just leave your truck the way it is. However, it's yours, not mine: Do what you want with it.
yes disc is the better braking system im not sure what the price is ill say 250-500 bucks someone correct me if im wrong i have drums on my truck rear end i put new drums wheel cylinders and hardware kit for about a 100 bucks and it stops great even with 38.5 inch tires and it was a lot less then disc so its up to you if you want to spend that kind of money if you where drag racing the truck and doin 140+ in the 1/4 mile i would say get them but if your not then i would save your money
and use the factory set up thats just my opinion

Armyguy, I don't know. I saw it once on hotrodtv for some other type of vehicle and that got me to thinking....could it be done to mine. Anyways, I'm a long way from that project. I'm still trying to get my engine together and runnin.
check with www.tsmmfg.com. they sell the the disk kits for the rear of your truck. i went to disk on the rear of a 79 i used to have and it made a world of difference and only spent 350 in required parts. but went ahead and redid all my seals and bearrings while i was at it which cost more
