OK I got my transmission flushed about three weeks ago and three times the trans didnt want to shift from 1st to 2nd, it just kinda revved up to maybe 1-2000 RPMs higher than usual. Does this sound like a prob with the transmission or maybe something that I should take up with the shop that did the flush? Thanks guys.
P.S. Its a 2000 Exp Sport 4.0 OHV with 39000 miles.
no the work was done at tire kingdom. Should I take it back to them or go elsewhere or what? This is the reason i try to do stuff myself so you know its done right but I couldnt flush it myself so....
First off.. take it back to where the work was done and talk to the service manager. Find out exactly what was done, i.e. filter and fluid type. They should be liable for the repairs if any are needed. If you don't get any satisfaction from the service manager, push the problem up the chain of command.
There are several causes for this problem... I had a shift govener go on a replacement trans in my old Explorer, which was a 92. Here is a good check to see if that is the problem.... pull the shift lever down to 1st... then at the correct RPM/speed shift the lever up one notch... does it shift? do the same for the next gear... does it shift or drop back down? If it works properly when you manually shift it then I would put my money on the shift govenor. If not, then there could be more extensive problems with the trans.... and the service station that performed the work may be buying you a new trans.
Sorry about the bad news bro, hope everything works out without any major problems. Keep us up to date on what happens.
Thanks for the info Ill try that out in a bit, yeah if it was something the shop did theyll be hearing about it, I just didnt want to go off on them if its just a coincidence.
has a spacer that must be used or the filter doesn't pull up and it sucks air. There are also O rings that must be installed that you dont have to have with the V8 tranny. Someone new could be confused. If you ever drop the pan yourself, tighten all the valve body bolts cause they come loose. I bought a spare 99 w/52K tranny that had the valve body blown out because these got loose. Mine were loose on my 97. As much as I hate flushes, I dont think this caused the problem.
Opera House Works,
Why do you hate flushes? I like the idea of getting 100% of the fluid out of my trans.
Anyway, about the problem at hand. Check to make sure the shop used Mercon V in your transmission. I've heard that the wrong fluid (i.e. Mercon III) could cause problems. Good luck.
Hey, need to look at the owner manual and see what fluid is needed in the trans. They could have put the wrong stuff in. Like F-type and not mercon v. But don't say anything till the say what they did and then show the book that tell them what they should have done. I would also call a trans. shop and ask what could happen with the wrong fluid in the trans. and what it would cost to rebuild it.
