I've got about 2,000 miles on a set of Toyo AT2 Extremes and I've been really pleased with them so far. I've been out on my farm numerous times with them and while they don't bite like the Toyo MT's I had on my old truck they also aren't nearly as noisy on the freeway. So far seems to be a great tradeoff.
One thing for sure they are much better than the stock Michelins. Those suckers were terrible on any non asphalt surface and picked up stones like a post Katrina looter.
I ran DuraTracs on my old pickup (2005 Duramax Crewcab 4x4) when we lived in Michigan and they handled to snow and mud very well. They did not fare well when I towed heavy though and wore out quickly when I did. If I recall the sidewalls are thinner on the DuraTracs but I'm telling you they drove through snow like it wasn't there. They were awesome on the highway too. Never were loud at all. I got close to 60k out of them rotating them every 5,000 miles. Next I had the Toyo RT's. They handled great but after about 10k miles they were as loud as the MT's I replaced them with at 45k. The RT's were not good at all in sloppy mud or snow the few times they were in it on hunting trips. The MT's were awesome for towing and offroading but as to be expected were deafening loud. I will be honest I would be running the MT's on my new truck if not for the noise. I'm going to try and make it with the AT2's. Time will tell.
I used to run the Toyo AT2's (previous vehicles) but, they do not carry the snowflake symbol. Good tire aside from that. I am back to running BFG KO2's now on my vehicles. A lower cost option is the Hankook Dynapro ATM's. Pretty good reviews on them out there.
I put Hankook Dynapro ATMs on the 2001 last year to replace a set of Toyo AT2s. The Hankooks are mountain snowflake rated and did vey well last winter. I never thought the Toyo AT2s were all that good in wet and snow, but they did well towing a trailer and I easily got 60,000 miles out of them. I pulled my Artic Fox to Alaska twice with them and never had issues.
This fall, I have been thinking about replacing the factory Michelin ATs on the 2015 F250 CCSB. The Michelins have 45000 miles, but are getting sketchy for winter use. Again, I'm leaning towards the Hankooks for their snow performance. I like the look of the new Cooper AT3 XLTs....but they are new this summer and I cant seem to find much real world experience. The reports I have seen on the Coopers so far seem to indicate they are very quiet with good road manners.
My Michelin’s are giving me trouble. Not wearing great and rubber is starting to separate. Michelin siping is shallow also...it’s only about 5/32nd deep. Once you get to 7-8/32nds the siping will be gone yet you still have lots of tread remaining.
been running toyo AT2s for years and love them and my current set have 44k miles on them. But these are my next set of tires. They apparently are rating higher than Toyos and other brands.
Are you looking for true winter tires? If so, Bridgestone Blizzak now comes in a studless LT tire this year. I just got a set but can't yet comment on them. Tread looks aggressive and "bitey." Previous Blizzaks have performed quite well.
