Hidden Vin

I have a 2000 E350 V10. It had some body work due to a skin separation on the door . Body shop charged me to replace the door but it was returned with a broken door 'exactly the same. The parts do not have Vin Stickers. CHP friend says there are hidden vins on the parts and without stickers, my parts may be confiscated if discovered during an inspection by the CHP.

WHERE and how do I find these vins on the doors and front fenders?

Not sure how CHP deals with changed body parts but here in Ohio any body part that's replaced for whatever reason needs to have a paper trail showing where the part(s) were obtained. If from a salvage yard the donor vehicle VIN should be shown on the receipt for the part(s); if new a purchase receipt showing the vendor is necessary. If this is a concern contact the body shop for this info, it should have been part of the final bill when you picked the van up the first time.

If they resist remind them you're trying to comply with CHP requirements That should be more than enough to prompt them to supply you the needed information.

BTW I'm not suggesting you ignore your friends advice but they might be running just a tad bit ahead of highly improbable events. You can and maybe should take it upon yourself to contact CHP's vehicle inspection division, describe your concern and allow them to inform you what conditions and situations apply in instances like yours. Having once rebuilt a lot of wrecked vehicles back in the middle 80's there were steps necessary to re-register a salvage title as inspected and theoretically safe for operation on public streets once again. There was no real inspection for quality of repairs but things like original collision damage estimate, receipts showing from where parts were obtained and as I describe salvage yard parts had to include the donor vehicle's VIN on the receipt.

After those steps were completed and registration issued any inspection there after was for mechanical and safety conditions, previous repairs not investigated to any degree.
