I have the Ford "Vehicle Security System", what appears to be a hastily-installed dealer add-on which was stuffed between the steering column and the fuse panel access door. Not sure if they all had this system.
My issue is the honking of the horn each time it is armed or disarmed. Many aftermarket alarms allow for customization of the alerts, including a silent arm/disarm mode... but I don't know if this one does and if it does, I don't know how to access the programming. I live in a quiet neighborhood and would like to keep it that way, or at least offend as little as a gargantuan Diesel SUV can.
Anybody have a manual, or know how to put this thing into a less annoying mode?
I dunno about any dealer add-on, but the Ford system has always honked the horn when you hit the button twice. That's what arms the alarm. Or do you mean when you only click the button once, and it locks the doors, it also honks the horn?
Yep - hit the button to unlock once, gives one short honk. When locking, same deal - one short honk. If a zone is in fault (like right now, left rear door lock is inop) it will give a short honk, pause, then another short honk. Mimics the light flash.
The alarm system is installed into the wiring harness with crimp-on wire taps, kind of a sorry excuse for a factory system when ALL the wiring documents describe EXACTLY how to properly tap a wire - strip, split, wrap, solder, shrink.

Sorry, no help from me except to sympathize knowing that would bother me too.
