Tonneau

This is my first post. I just bought a 2016 F-150 Lariat with the 3.5 EcoBoost. I want to get a hard folding tonneau cover. I like the seamless look of the Bakflips but have heard good things about the Peragons as well. What are some of the best ones to keep water out, dent resistant, fade resistant, and scratch resistant?

No folding tonneau cover on the market will keep all water out.
I have the fiberglass BakFlip F1 on my 2016 Lariat and i`ve been very happy with it.
Also, it can be closed regardless of which position the tailgate is in.

As above, no tonneau cover is water tight. I have a Peragon and really like it. It keeps most water out. For example, last night I took my truck through the automatic car wash with its high pressure spray, and when I got home there was a ring of water along the sides of the bed, but really nothing in the middle. Normal rain, etc, the amount of water let in is minimal, but still there and I certainly wouldn’t trust it to keep anything sensitive to water bone dry (just common sense). Otherwise, Peragon looks good, functions well, and seems to be a lot of cover for the price. And, made in the USA!

I Have the Extang Tonneau on my 2015 F150XLT. It works well for me. I get a little water in around the tailgate area, in the corners, left and right, when I wash my Truck. I wash at the MWR manual car wash. I just wipe it dry. No issues. All other area's along the sides are dry as well as the middle of the bed.
Best of luck in your search.

extang Solid fold 2.0 is what I went with. Super easy install and removal. Sits on the bed rails so you don't need to install any additional hardware. 99.8% dry in the bed here in the wet northwest. Happy with it so far.

I have Fords version of the Backflip. I like it because fold all the way up it only takes up 4 in of bed space. I shouldn't ever have to take it off, and that is the reason I bought it. I think if I put on a tailgate seal and dope the front gaps in the floor like I did on my 2015 it will be almost 100 % water tight.

Hey Rounders7,
Congrats on the new truck. I just got a 2015 Lariat and first thing I did was have the bed sprayed with Line-X and got the Undercover Ultra-Flex. I had a roll top aluminum on my previous truck. I like this one much better, and as far as I know it's the only one that doesn't touch the back glass. Very well made and it looks really nice. I installed it myself. They are pricey, over $1K, I got mine for $850. I put it in myself no worries.

Have you considered a hard roll up?

I have the exact same setup as below (even truck color lol) i liked the idea of a hardcover by didn't like how they stored when folded so the revolver is a bit of both.

I thought about the revolver and 2 things, one I live in Florida and another user from Florida said it got really hot inside, and 2; to me it looked like a roll up garage door when open, I didn't really like the look, but it sure seemed like a sturdy top at the shop. It looks fantastic closed! The heat thing is what swung me the other direction.

They are all going to get hot since they provide no insulation. The aluminum slats do get hot, ive forgot to grab the felt area a few time are got a unpleasant surprise. But so does my buddy with a trifold.

The undercover ultra flex is an insulated hard composite of some sort with a carpeted underside. It's actually pretty nice to handle. I'm sure that outside surface gets hot in the sun for sure. I had a Pace Edwards Aluminum Roll top and it got very hot, good thing was you never touched it you just unlatched gave it a gentle push and it rolled into the storage while you held on to a tether. It took up a lot of the bed, and I always had to keep it lubricated to work smoothly. I think the one you have now is a vast improvement over that older design.

I looked at the Pace ones that retracted, they are nice but i envisioned nightmares with salt, snow and ice build up and the issues you mentioned. I almost bought a paragon, but i store 2 rows of firewood at the head of the bed when we camp and it would interfere with the cover opening, plus a lot of people recommend keeping a hook to retrieve things that rolled forward so the cover could open without crawling in. The biggest issue was i would not be able to haul my kayak in the bed since its already questionable at 13.5' lol I will say it seems the quality and customer service with paragon is second to none, if that style cover fits your needs they seem to be amazing.

The carpet on the ultra flex will help a lot with handling it in the heat, how heavy are they?

I think you can lift the Truxedo Titanium out completely if you need that extra couple of inches.

Terryd91,

It's a pretty stout cover. I installed it myself, but I could definitely have used an extra set of hands to get it in place so you wouldn't want to remove it alone. And I will say this, if your truck is lifted at all, and you're shorter than say 6' tall, that last flip up to install the prop rods is fairly heavy. I plan on leveling mine just the 2" so it won't be an issue for me. I was lucky in that the Line-X shop I went to had a truck with it on so I was able to try it first. It's not one you would want to remove completely occasionally for full-bed use. There are definitely better ones for that out there.
