Need Advice, Looking at a 72 F600 n 74 F700.

Hello folks. Need some help. Currently looking at two different trucks. One is a 72 F600. The other is a 74 F700 cabover. Both are dump beds. Both have V8’s. Not sure which one the 72 has but the 74 has the 361. Both are 4 speed with two speed rear. I plan to keep it as it is for patina reasons and take it to truck shows and haul yard debris. Never drove a two speed rear truck before but love driving a stick. 72 is said to do no more then 55 and the 74 will do 60 fine. Guessing the gearing is better on the 74. I like the looks of both. Cabover is neat but 72 is older. Both under 100k miles and pretty much same conditions which is nice. So what do u folks think? Pros and cons to each?

Read through a few threads on tires, wheels and brakes. You sound like you know the power limitations. The F600 is probably a 330 vs. the C700s 361. I can find the Eaton videos on the two speeds. There is a bit of a "procedure" to those, and they not like an OD or extra gear as far as shifting.

Great trucks, and the dump bed is a real bonus.

More tomorrow.

Post 5 here has the Eaton videos. My serving suggestion is to use it as "5th gear", and to practice your upshift and downshift to and from 4th low to high and back. (Using the Eaton guidelines):
