Just picked up an 04 Eddie
pretty happy with it... super clean inside and out. Has 220k on the 5.4 and they never had to do anything but change the oil. It’ll need tires soon. So I was curious what the largest tires I can put on the stock EB 17’s? Anything you guys would recommend me doing proactively assuming it hasn’t been done already? I got a great deal I think for the condition. There one spot of rust under the passenger side rocker panel and 2” long. I’ll probably see about fixing that up just to prevent it from getting worse. Looking forward to learning from the Expy crowd. I had a 2000 way back when.. and didn’t know about the forums if they even existed back then. Sold my Excursion about two years ago... I needed another people mover

I've see folks put the 285's on the stock rims, but that's about it. Listen for timing chain slap on cold startups. If the timing chains and guides haven't already been replaced watch them. Using synthetic oil ? Serpentine belt and water pump are a quick and easy maintenance item. Lower ball joints all the way around. Rust in the roof channels is very common. Transmission fluid change if that hasn't been done, or the fluid looks less than bright red. Check the axle fluids.

i don’t even know what a phaser tick is :/
this thing runs amazing. The guy I bought it from said he’s never had to do anything more than general maintenance. I was going to change diff fluids today but... football. Sometime this week... all fluids and now SERP belt and control arms I guess too.

There's no phasers on the 2004 Expy, it still came with the 2V engine. Less problems on the timing chain with these, but check for chain slap on start up, which can indicate if the chain tensioners and/or guides are worn. Be also vary on the spark plugs, the 2V engines had a habit of spitting out plugs. And if/when you replace them, be sure to look up the correct procedure. Too loose and they'll work themselves out to the point where they get blown out, too tight and you strip the threads.
