Drove through it on my way home from Chapple Hill. It was pretty slow going on the loop around Raleigh, but once I got east of 95 there was nothing. Lot's of leaves in the front yard but that's it. Pan handle caught the devil, praying for them down there.
Was "only" a tropical storm when it passed over us, but the winds picked back up as soon as it made its way to our shoreline. Thousands here without power, schools and many businesses closed Friday. I helped neighbors with thier downed trees and limbs. Several of my inlaws came here today for showers and dining because most of their county (Mathews) on the Chesapeake Bay is without power (well water). My employer's weather station recorded a few gusts above 60 MPH Thursday night, and there were some over 70 across the river in Norfolk. Praying for those along the Gulf Coast.
We had trees down in NC, but nothing like Florida. I head down there to Tyndall tomorrow (Panama City area). Reports I am getting from down there are bad. Not sure what to expect when we roll in
Were still here... didnt get blown away... although the yard looked like the trees had a battle royal... tree branches and leaves were all over the place... deck chairs took a walk off the deck.. even had one of the porch lights get knocked down... other than that were still here... got power back after it was out for 13 hrs... cleaning up the yard the big branches just seemed to break on impact with the ground... still a few partially broken branches (2"-3" dia) that could become widowmakers up in the trees out of reach so just have to keep an eye out when working near the tree line... the smaller branches that came down (1/4"-1/2" diameter) i was surprised to find had buried the stems 3-5" into the ground... was expecting to just find them laying on top of the ground.. not speared into it.. would have expected that more from the larger branches that came down..
Lots of flooding here in VA. Record levels for the rivers have been set here. Water in places that I have never seen, even having lived here for 26 years....
The first picture is an old RR bridge that was washed up into downtown Danville.
Middle georgia member, here. I lost the roof on two of my horse barns, one large limb down and about a billion pine cones. Out of power about 36 hours. I think we got about 4 inches of rain but with the wind blowing like it was, it was immeasurable in a gauge. No flooding, but we were so dry i imagine it soaked up like a sponge. That was the worst weather I've seen. You just don't think you'll get a hurricane in Georgia, but Michael was very powerful!!!
I cannot imagine what the residents of Florida are going through, to have nothing left.
Local news reported this evening that 600,000 customers lost power here in SEVA. My mother-in-law got hers turned back on today. Power restoration currently stands at 96% locally.
I just got back from 30 days down in the Panhandle Area. Mexico Beach was absolutely destroyed. I have never seen anything like that, and I have seen a lot of destruction in my life.
Thanks for the update. I hope that MB residents, neighbors, first responders, local businesses, volunteers, visitors, relief organizations, and everyone else has an opportunity to take a short break, sit down, and share a Thanksgiving meal.
