Our new F350 Lariat came with the "wonder tailgate" with steps, camera, and who knows what else besides a $3k price tag. The primary purpose of the truck is to tow our 5'ver. Previously we used an after- market towing tailgate that clearly wont fit the new truck. I have searched diligently for a comparable after-market tailgate for our 2019 and came up empty. They stopped with the 2016's. Are there ANY 5th whl designed tailgates for the Super duty series after 2016?
Regards and Thanks
Bill
I just picked up a 2019 F-450 and looking for the same deal. Husky has a nice V-gate tailgate but only shows up to 2016. Surely someone is building a V-gate for the new aluminum body. I have been pulling my 5th wheel for years with an 2012 International Workstar truck. Due to health getting to be a challenge climbing in/out so going with lower profile rig. Anyone interested in a great 5th hauler, let me know since selling my medium duty rig. Got used to never having to hassle with opening/closing tailgate to hook up. I hate to give up the camera as well in the tailgate...
thanks
I've never had an issue with the OEM tailgate towing a fifth wheel (and we're full-timers). At my age, I'm keeping the OEM tailgate with the step assist!
With my previous TV (14 F250) I was unhappy with the flimsy aftermarket V-gates available. I went to my local welder and he fabbed me up one made of real metal = seating for 3 adults. The best part was it was cheaper than those I found in the market.
My intentions were to move it over to my new TV but (as implied) it didn't fit (18 F350). I've come to like the new gate (lighter, camera, steps) so will leave it on.
Not sure what the fit issue is. I have a louvered 5W gate that has been on my 2000/F250. 2006F350, & is currently on my 2015/F350. The supper gates stored in my shop. With the step bumper in back getting into the beds not and issue.
The issue is my newer truck (2018) tailgate was about two inches wider (according to my dealer who I observed actually measuring the two side by side). Perhaps it was simply because I went from an F250 to the F350 DRW.

That's a good possibility all three of mine where SRW.
At one time I was shopping for a 'V' gate and found one to fit. It even advertised a piece that could be inserted to make it flat across the top. Sadly, it was made of plastic, so I skipped it.
Don't remember the brand, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Edit: It looks like it was Stromberg Carlson. Take a look at etrailer.com
I currently have a Stromberg Carlson (Plastic) from e-trailer, but the best gate I ever owned was a Custom Flow tailgate out of Canada. I checked and they currently only have a full airgate (no V) for the 2017 up, but they show that a V gate will be available mid November on some websites. Here is a picture on my old truck. It is powder coated, galvanized and heavy, They also sell a V cover for the V.
This is what my local welder fabricated for me (locking gate $200, powder coating $50, LED strip running light $10).
Using his wire welder it was also visible ID'd with my mark - for theft prevention.
