Overdrive for a 79 4x4???

Overdrive for a 79 4x4???

I have a 79 f-150 w/ 460 automatic. Looking for a overdrive, what tranny am i looking for and will it bolt to my transfer. Thx for any info

Check gearvendors.com. I put one in my '97 F350, 460, ZF5, 4.10, about 90K miles back...has worked flawlessly. They're not cheap...but they're GOOD!

Whichever way you go, this gets expensive. The GV unit will have to be after the TC, and locked out for 4x4 use.

You might check on an E4OD transmission swap. You would need a controller, but you might end up less money and modification at the end of the swap.

The GV unit has its own electronic controls to drop it to direct upon accidentally pulling the TC lever to 4H while in OD. There is also an "on/off" switch. I understand GV makes kits for mounting the unit ahead of the TC for applications where 4X4 in OD is desired.
