Ok so I'm converting my 06 f350 dually from long bed to short bed. Already got everything removed to start. I just need to know exact amount to cut. I can't find a exact amount, I read like 3 different sizes. I was guessing since I'm going from 8' to 6' 9" bed I would need to cut the difference, being 15", Just want to be 100% before I cut.
I guess he wants a single shorty, those didn't exist unless the frame is cut.
You need two things, the distances between the front pair of bed mounting bolts in each bed, and page like the one attached. The spring hangers on the 2012 in this file are further forward than an '06 (I can't find the body builder layout book for 2006 online currently), but you have to cut the frame between the front spring hanger and the forward mounting bolt and remove ~16.2" of frame. I think the front tank mounting strap will have to be changed, and the fuel tank would need to be from a short bed.

I seen on another forum someone said about using the short bed gas tank. But the gas tank on my truck is in the rear, like behind the bumper. So I dont think I need to change gas tank
just need to correct the gas lines and extend filler neck hose (see picture)
I know frame looks ugly but it's just surface, once its cut and re-welded, I'll clean it up nice and paint it.
I have to just ask why........... plenty of super cheap regular cab short bed 05+ f250s around.
I dont think single cab short beds were release from Ford in the states, I read something once that they were released in south America or Asia (cant remember) but I dont think is was even DRW just SRW.
Why? They look f$%kN Awsum lol
Congrats for embarking on this project! Take plenty of photos and notes to post up on FTE, will be a unique and really handy truck when finished. Had planned on chopping down my '00 250 LWB but have decided to save this effort for a newer truck some time in the future.
You have a narrow-frame cab & chassis model, so you need a different page of the body builders book to get the correct measurements for your frame, and you don't have to worry about aligning the bed bolt holes because they aren't there.

Thanks, my plan was to get a new truck, I sold my 04 Cummins Crew cab DRW to buy a 15/16 F150 since I never really used the Hitch, I dont really need a DRW. But then I came across this truck on CL with typical timing for dirt cheap. (Under 600 cheap). It ran but u can hear the chain slapping the timing cover. So since it was cheap, decided to do a little extra.
As of now plan is to cut the frame and make a shorty, i already started stripping her down and started sanding, a little more body work and then I'll primer and after I do all the timing stuff, I'll make space and time at the shop to paint her.

Thanks man, alot of useful information. Longest bathroom break ever lol, that Y2Kw57 Knows his stuff....I decided to get the bed first and modify it to fit then I can get the exact measurement I need to cut.
This thing will be sweet when you are finished. I have seen a chopped down SRW regular cab in person and it looked super cool. Looked as though Ford should have offered them that way all along. It was a 6.0 powerstroke 4X4 regular cab SRW. Pretty handy and sweet truck.
