1996 f150 5.8l XLT needs new exhaust

Finally got the truck on a lift and have found a few small holes in the exhaust which I have to patch or replace before it will pass VT inspection. I had planned on putting a new exhaust on anyway, so this worked out nicely. My question is, what would people recommend. I don't need it to shake the earth when it goes down the street, but hearing some of the 5.8 would be wonderful.

I also please ask no one recommend flowmaster, their stuff rusts out way to fast here in VT... I don't know if any shops around me could build one, but am looking into that while I leave this post here.

Thank you hugely in advance.

Cheers

have called around locally, no advice thus far. it has, what I believe would be stock, single exhaust that comes out on the right side behind the right rear tire. I was able to give the whole system a better look, I think it will pass inspection, but boy oh do I want to get something else on there. to the top again hoping for some thoughts.

Any recommendations on headers or are the stock ones pretty decent.

Yeah, that sounds stock. Most people on here will tell you to put headers on, long or short. Stock manifolds aren't very good and if you're looking to replace the exhaust system anyway, headers are the way to go. Don't worry about "true duels" either. A single 2.5-3" system with (or without) high flow catalytic converter and the muffler of your choice will net you gains.

you rock, thanks a ton for the simple response, yeah I don't need it ground shaking, but would be nice to hear some of the 5.8
