Another fluid film thread
Normally I wash and put a fresh coat of fluid film on twice a year, once in the spring and again in the fall. This year I'm thinking about not doing the fall application And just going with what I put on this spring. What do you guys think?
What is on there now has a heavy coating of dirt on it so it will not wash off but I wonder how good the thin layer of fluid film is underneath. If I rub it with my finger it has a slight oily feel to it.
My twice a year method has been working but the way this fall is going I don't know if I'm going to have any more really warm days to put fresh on. Plus as wet as it is there is no dust around to get a protective layer to keep the FF from washing off.

I would not skip the fluid film if you get snow where you live. I do my 2016 twice a year just like you are doing.
I live in the snow belt with lots of salt used. I will be doing mine next month.
I dont think you have to worry about that fine dirt that sticks to it. More than likely i wont be washing my underneath either....unless there is alot of mud. I'll just endure the wet and cold.
I do get comments from people that underneth of my truck still looks new with no rust anyplace.

I think I'll stick to the spring/fall routine I've been doing. Hopefully it warms and dries up next month so I can get some dust on the fresh fluid film to help keep it in place during winter. I don't think I'm going to reapply under the cab though because the fluid film that is on there is still really clean. I'll probably just wash under the box and frame and put fresh on those areas.
My truck is spotless also under all the grime, but I don't drive on salted roads that much in the winter. Our county blacktops aren't salted very much(and when they do get salted it's more sand then salt)so I try to stay on those roads even if it means driving out of my way. Plus I'm on call all winter to plow roads so I never go far from home.

If I was going to skip an application, I'd forgo the the spring one.
In this area, especially being rural, they use a lot of salt on the roads when it snows. We don't get a lot of snow, but it snows enough several times a year for them to salt things down.
My uncle only did a fall application under the F350, but started doing that from new, and he lived in Florida at that time. I've continued on his schedule and the truck still looks great underneath.

Just did mine for first time this year. After 4 seasons going up to Quebec to sled, dealer always asking why it’s so rusty? Just surface rust, but it was time to get it dealt with...$149 for the kit was $ well spent. Guys inQuebec been doing this kind of application forever, but could never find anyone doing it this far south (CT), and ended up doing it myself.
