It has probably been asked on here a million times, but.....
I just was on My Ford and downloaded the newest version of sync, got it on a usb drive. The truck has now been idling for over an hour and the screen says "updating system software" --------.
How long does this take? did I do something wrong?
Why can't they figure out a way that the truck doesn't have to be running?
I had the same problem.. I have a 2016 F-150 that did not originally come with Android Auto (Version 1.0). I was able to update to 2.2 and then could use my Android Auto.
Going from 2.2 to 3.0 seems to be a problem for me. After waiting for about 2 hours, I gave up and tried it again. Now, it says Memory Error 003. I lost Gracenote but everything else is functional, including my phone to the screen. Never cared much for Gracenote anyways.
I'm throwing in the towel now. It's been idling for an hr and a half. I give up. Just wasting fuel, and adding hrs to the engine. Frustrated with this stupid sync.
I just ordered the module to use apple carplay, so I need this update, but I have gotten by without it for 2 yrs, whats the difference at this point.
If you don't want to leave it idling, just take it for a long drive somewhere, perhaps to a place you've been meaning to visit for a long time but never found the time.
Yes going to 3 from 2.something. As far as I know it hasn't been updated since 2016. I was going to go sight some gun's in, but it is only a 5 minute drive. I just shut it off. I'll ask the dealer if they can do it.
But the important question to me, Why not have it set up with out it running? Why not allow me to turn the radio on for "Updating purposes"?
Then you're screwed. I have the exact same problem. I gave up about two months ago. You will lose Gracenote but it seems everything else will still work.
I think it uses a lot of battery so you need the engine running. Updates can affect hardware and if there's the slightest interruption, it could get bricked.
Oh, gosh, I hate you now! I have been struggling with this over the past three months and just gave up. Did a master reset about 4 times already but that never worked. Bought the fastest USB 3.1 stick with 64GB, that didn't work.
I have no idea what the speed of the usb drive was. All I know is I bought a 128gig one. I just got lucky I guess. And Oh wow the new version is better. *sarcasm* The only difference I saw was I can use my accuweather app on the radio, and the backup warnings are different.
Before updating Ford Sync to latest update, its been recommended to just go ahead & do a system reset first and then using a usb drive larger than 4gb, update to latest version.
