Interesting info.
I had no idea that the tint that comes on our F150`s and SD`s could be removed.
I learned something new today.
uh. I’m not sure this is accurate. Every modern manufacturer I have seen uses tinted glass that is tinted as part of the glass manufacturering process. Not an application on the outside of the glass. Can anyone confirm that Ford doing something different?
I matched my front windows to the back, did 35% on the windshield, and did 5% on the sunroof. Very nice and noticeable reduction in cab heat during the summer. If you plan on tinting the windshield that dark, have the factory LEDs or something equivalent.
All in all, I'm happy with it. Haven't had to wear sunglasses since doing it.

You can’t remove the factory “tint”. The windows aren’t actually tinted, they are a colored privacy glass. People saying they removed factory tint are probably referring to tint installed by the dealer. One of the dealers by me tints most of their cars and adds wheel locks to the vehicles once they take delivery (they still charge you for it and add an additional sticker next to the Ford window sticker with the new total), but the windows don’t come that way from the factory.
I was told by my local window tint dealer that the sunroof could not be tinted when I inquired. I asked why and he said it would almost certainly lead to glass shattering with the tints heat gathering/absorbing technology? I didn't question him beyond that and he seemed very adamant with his response. I would like to get the sunroof tinted darker. This North MS heat just won't quit this year and I like how the panoramic sunroof makes the cab feel even bigger when the sunshade is open but it heats up the interior more than it's worth as it came from the factory.
I had Lumar added to my front door windows to match the rear doors and back glass. Looks great and like others I have never had any issues with the quality of the work or any color changes down the road and I've had all of my vehicle windows tinted since the early 90's. Only time I had an issue was when my truck was broken into. The passenger door glass was shattered and the body shop that replaced the window also tinted the new glass and used some Walmart level tint that was bright purple within a week. I took it to my tint guy who tinted both door windows again to match and had the body shop pay for the bill since the agreement was that was what they were going to do upfront and then billed me for it and used the cheap tint.

everyone I know down here is tinting with no issues. I rode around in the Texas summer heat all season with the shade open. With it tinted dark enough you can actually ride around midday without sunglasses on. I would find another shop to be honest. Or you could always have Ford price it, just to see if their own techs are willing to do it, that would tell you for certain if your first guy is full of it. (albeit I’d never let them do it because it would cost a fortune thru them).

Fake News.
People on this board have been spreading that rumor since these trucks came out, but nobody's sunroof has spontaneously combusted. I have my roof tinted and I live in Miami with some of the most intense sunshine and heat in the county and we have it ALL YEAR LONG. My roof is still intact.
”I don’t recommend tinting those style roofs. Lot of talk on the tint forums about the glass breaking after putting tint on. What happens is the dark tint will absorb more heat and due to the size of the glass it becomes unstable especially when driving and vehicle flexes.”
Just sharing what I was told. That statement alone is enough to give me pause. I’d be the one guy that shattered one.
After getting full ceramic tint on my truck, it will be the first thing I do to every vehicle from now on. I even did the windshield with clear ceramic. Makes a huge difference in the amount of heat coming in the cab.
