The 1999 is a non-PI head engine, and WILL result in less power. You will need the PCM at the least, or a tune if you go this route, but again, it will be a depressing loss of power

Thanks. Just trying to make what I have work as cheap as possible.
It will all bolt up, not sure about the exhaust, and the '99 might have an EGR where your current one doesn't.
So is it basically plug and play other than the possible egr problem? I can deal with any exhaust issues . And am not concerned about power loss .I just need it to run. If I have to I can swap any electrical things I need, I am just unsure if it absolutely necessary or of other options?
Motor mounts, bellhousing, flexplate/flywheel, everything is the same. Intake will have to come with the replacement engine, you can't use the one that's on the 2001. The wiring, I'm not sure about. If there's an EGR, you will need the harness from the '99, or it can be tuned out, or just use the 2001 PCM and it'll probably all work.
You didn't say why you were doing an engine swap. If it's the bottom end on your current rig that's toast, keep your heads and swap them onto the block from the '99 since it sounds like you already have that. Then it should just be a simple plug and play.

The heads on my 01 are shot . My dad has a 99 with a good motor that he said I can have if I can swap it into the 01. The 99 has an egr and the 01 doesn't. I need to figure out how to get around that obstacle.
That EGR is going to be the least of your problems. Depending on the state you live in, you can't swap an older engine into a newer truck due to smog regulations.

I live in Ohio. It will have commercial plates so there's no e-check.
