Sparkplugs

Would the original sparkplugs have been Autolite brand? Truck has 93K miles. Plugs look OK to me, just rusty on the outside. The gaps were all much wider than the .054. What do ya'll think?

Pretty sure they were. My 95 had Autolites in it at 155k when I got it. Much like you said, gaps were WAY bigger than .045, closer to .07

No.

FORD had to give up the AUTOLITE brand naming in 1972. AUTOLITE was bought by ALLIED SIGNAL.

Factory assembly plugs would have been MOTORCRAFT.

AUTOLITE (but they won't) is an aftermarket company.

There is an emissions sticker at the base of the hood just above the vacuum booster.

At the bottom of the sticker is the Motorcraft part number that cross references along with gap.

Plug it into a search either online or a part's place search box if they carry MC.

I also say “No” to the Autolite plugs being OEM. They would have been Motorcraft brand copper spark plugs. The service interval is 30K miles so they should have been replaced at least twice by now.

Glenn if they were original they would have a white dot on top of them. My Bro in Law was a Ford tech and told me about it. I took my plugs out of my 91 with 86K and they had the white dot as he described. Sandy

Thanks guys. I will look for the white dot. A couple of these plugs were pretty hard to get to.

The WHITE DOT would only have been on assembly plugs, not service replacement plugs.

My reading comprehension is getting worse too. Finished installing the plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. I used all Motorcraft brand. The new wires did not seem as nice as the old ones. The old wires had thicker rubber boots and the wires were numbered. I guess it's like everything else, not made like they used to be.

Those were original factory assembly wires. Service replacement is not usually as nice.
