can anyone tell me for certain, if the heads from a 1969 351 w will fit on a 1982 351 w? i've been waiting for the local mustange shop to put together a set of heads for 2 months, getting very tired of waiting. they say that a set of 1992 302 heads will fit the ticket for what i want the 351 to do, namely put a travel trailer with my 91 f 150 4x4. any ideas? getting desperate. help, thanks
p.s. i'm looking to run about 9.5 to 1 compression
i had some of those on my mustang for a while. they will work on any windsor block, except there is a need for different head bolts on the smaller 302 and under blocks. c9OE or D0OE casting heads will work fine because they have big valves and small chambers. if your motor has stock pistons, you should be fine on the compression ratio. there will likely be an issue with pushrod length as the windsor deck height changed in the mind 1970s. your 82 block has non-adjustable stamped steel pedistal rockers but the ehads you want to run need cast ones. you can get the cast ones from any ford small block made before about 1978 or buy them from the parts store. use pushrods from about 1978 to be safe and be sure to check the length when it is all assembled. if everything matches, youll be fine. just be sure to check everything out very well to ensure that your rockers hit the valves right in the middle. that's critical. good luck
by the way, there is an extra bolt hole on the 69-73 heads that your intake doesnt have. you will find it in the water passages near the end of the head on the intake side. dont worry about it. just use your gaskets and youll be fine.
