hi guys have a 99 f350 with the 7.3 and it feels like the converter is kicking in right after I hit 2nd, right before I hit 3rd or right after I hit 3rd...it also while towing when it drops down out of overdrive with cruise control on going up a hill it won’t shift back into overdrive...even going down the other side of the hill It won’t shift back into overdrive I have to hit the brakes to get it to shift. I have brought it to the dealership and had the computer flashed and it didn’t solve anything...anyone experience anything like this or have an idea what it could be. Probably going to rebuild it but would like to have an idea what it could be
Unfortunately I am not familiar with the workings of our slushbox and this is nothing more than a bump for you.
I do, however, recommend posting in the 99-03 Powerstroke 7.3L diesel forum as there are lots of knowledgeable people that can help out. With a little luck @Mark Kovalsky might chime in and help out. He was a Ford transmission engineer that has intimate knowledge of the 4R100.

If you do rebuild it I'll bet you'll be surprised when it is still doing the exact same thing.
This is either a case where you don't like the way it's programmed, or it's getting bad data. The only way to figure that out is to get a scan tool that can read the data. Then we can tell when it's shifting, when it's locking, and which gear it's actually in at all times.
