How not to repair fenders

What I was doing today
Here’s my front fenders - 1949 mercury m-47. I knew they were bad as soon as I lifted them. Must have weighed close to 75lbs some areas over an inch thick of bondo. The previous owner had welded covers over the damage, which of course just caused it to get worse... anyways enjoy the pictures.

Can't fault him for a lack of effort. Good luck on your new challenge!

The previous owner must have hired a sculpture artist with a trowel to slather that much on!
Nice job getting it back to normal. Well done.

yep can tire, personally I love them they are nice and thin, but they do go quick. I think it’s a good trade off

Thanks Tom, I'm not going for show finish by any means, but id love for it to last a while and look fairly straight.
Sculpture artist indeed..... when I started sanding down the existing fenders I was really quite shocked. I seriously think there must have been over a gallon of mud on each fender. With the cost of mud for 4 fenders he could have bought himself a used mig and saved me a bunch of grief.

They look new or you have an uncanny ability to wear them down exactly the same.

Later!
