Here's one for Ford to look at. On a trip apparently a blade broke hit the radiator shot across hit the other fan and broke 2 more blades on it.
Now a grand later and a hotel stay later, we are waiting for Huff Ford in Wythville VA to fix it. On a good note Huff has gone far above just being a dealer. They picked the wife and I up from the interstate, gave us a ride to and from our hotel and accommodated us to the fullest. But back to the issue at hand
is this a defective part, that shouldn't have failed as it did. I'm a firm believer of Ford's. But a fan blade shouldn't come apart without it being hit. No damage from the front just the back where the blade put a hole in it
It's not uncommon with any make for high mileage fans to come apart. They do normally last well past 100k, most of the time the motors burn up before the plastic heat cycles and stress cracks and explodes.
Honestly, it's the first I've heard of it being "not uncommon". Between the wife and me we've had at least 6 vehicles with 200K+ miles and over 10 yrs of service and never once has a plastic fan broken like the OP's.

it's not a high mileage truck really
it just turned 90k on this trip.
