Get rid of it? (Opinions)
I just need a quick opinion. I have a 1995 F150 XLT with the extended cab. Manual inline 6 with about 190k on it. Recently I ran into problems. I let my brother in law work on my truck. Big mistake. He gave it back to me idling abnormally high with the original oil leak issue I wanted him to look at , still there. All vacuum lines are intact so I can only assume cracked intake manifold. Bottom line, truck is in bad shape.
My question is: Do I spend the money to fix it, THEN sell it? Or just ask for whatever anyone will give me and have them tow it off?

If you are going to sell, first you should get an idea of what your truck would sell for if running decent. Then you give a buyer a fair estimate of the cost to fix based on your knowledge and discount it from your what you feel your truck is worth running decent. That is a good fair deal for everyone. Advertise that it is running but needs some attention and should probably be towed if that is the case. Sandy

Thanks for all the replies. Yeah I learned my lesson. He’s a mechanic so I trusted him with diagnosing the location of the oil leak, and everything just got screwed from there.
Idles around 2800-3000. I live in Ft. lauderdale, Florida. And by bad shape, I mean mechanically. The body is fine with the exception of rusted roof. But mechanically, oof. I think the oil leak is coming from the crankshaft seal. Either the starter or solenoid is shot. This idle problem. The list goes on. I just have a hard time getting rid of it cause I know it’s a great engine. And my dad bought it new. I’ll upload pics tomorrow when it’s light. Thanks again guys.

I say keep it. As many have said before most of the problems can be fixed fairly easily and for not a lot of money. The experience/knowledge I gained fixing up my truck has been invaluable, and both my parents and I agree that it was worth far more than the money it took to get it going. If a 19 year old college kid with limited mechanical skills can drag a pickup out of the woods and have it road-legal in one summer (while working a full time job), then it really speaks to how easy and simple these vehicles are to work on.
That said, each time I found an issue I really wanted to throw in the towel and sell the project - Grandpa and Mom convinced me to stick it out and just pay for the parts. In the end, though, I ended up with a wealth of knowledge and a straight and solid old Ford that gets me everywhere I need to go and turns heads.
If you do decide to go ahead with the project the people here are more than willing to help, as are the guys on the inline six forum.
