Bent Pushrod
I have a rebuilt 300 in my 1979 F-150 4x4 with less than 7,000 miles on it. I was hauling a truck home on my trailer Monday when I noticed the truck sounded different. I drove the truck to work yesterday morning and it ran progressively worse. I made it back home (barely), took off the valve cover and found #5 cylinder exhaust valve stuck open, rocker arm off, and pushrod bent. I stuck a screwdriver in the spring and got the valve shut. I put a good pushrod in and retightened. I hope this was just a fluke and does not happen again. I was hoping someone has some advice on this. Thanks, Tim!

If you had to pry the valve shut by leveraging the spring there is a good chance the valve is bent. When the rocker cocked this is a possibility. If you run it with a bent valve it may ruin the valve guide. Better check it out.
