My truck has one bump stop (hard rubber piece about 1 1/2” wide, 3” long and 3” tall) mounted under the frame Right above the axle. The other one is missing. There I is about 10-12” between the bottom of the bump stop and the top of the axle.
How can the bump stops do any good at all in this position? The axle would have to move up 10-12 inches before it even touched the stop. The tires would hit the under side of the bed way before that, which brings me to my next question.
How much space should there be between the top of the tire and the under side of the bed? I am planning on setting 2 2x8s on top of the frame rails, and running 4x4s across the 2x8s about every 2 feet then using 5/4 for the bed. The old bed frame used 2x6. But that was with 20” tires now I have 22.5” tires. I put a 2x6 scrap (all I had) on top of the frame and a piece of wood across that and only had about 3” from wood to tire. I figure 2x8 would give 4”. Maybe I should go with 2x10?
