Hey- driving 3 hours to look at- and possibly purchase a 2007 f250 6.0 with 88,000 miles on it. Carfax ok but no maintenance records, one owner. They want $17,000. At 88,000 miles can it be corrupted? Looking at the truck you can see it has been maintained, and I know this truck falls in into the "good" years, but wondering if, in your experience, this makes sense verses the absolutely loaded 2008 King Ranch 5.4 gasser for $18,500. I tow a 12' dump trailer full of construction junk and an enclosed tool trailer around some of the time .
Buying is hard for me.
Thank for your advice.
Tim
The interior of the 2007 versus the 2008 are light-years apart. The 2008 is much nicer. Gas maintenance is cheaper but the diesel is a nice option. Looking at new ones you can see an almost $9000 difference.
It can absolutely be corrupted at 88000 miles. But it's probably fine. Seems to me you need to decide what you want first before driving 3 hours. If going diesel and 6.0 you need to be prepared to do some detective work to determine it's condition. I would not be able to comment on the capability of the gasser.
Pick your poison. You might get a 5.4 and need cam phasers redone two weeks later.
Sure, it might cost less than head gaskets but it's no promise of a trouble free engine.
I can tell you which one I would want for towing a dump trailer, a 6.0 is light years ahead in that dept
Read up on what to check for on a 6.0 before you purchase one. If you want to do it right you will have something to monitor data live on the test drive.
That price does not seem out of line
Thank you. That’s great advice. I cast aside that 5.4 can’t do that again. Looking at a 6.0 with 81,000 miles on it. Reading up on my what to look for.
So far I have only given them hold money but the bank check has been made out. I hand that over when I test drive. There is a three month unlimited miles warranty
