1985 6.9 Fuel problem

I have a no start 6.9 that I have replaced the fuel return lines, glow plugs and fuel filter.

I installed a short section of clear fuel line between the Eclectic lift pump and the filter housing to see if I was sucking any air into the line.

With the pump running there is no fuel in the clear line, when I drain the Schrader valve I get no air spitting out just a stream of fuel, then the clear tube fills up till I release the valve than the fuel drains out. I have no clue where to go from here, I am thinking of starting with a better Lift pump or a check valve? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

There is a video I uploaded of this at

Thanks

Craig

Nice video. The fuel filter is probably the wrong one for your truck. The gasket/o-ring isn't getting enough crush to seal properly. The threaded portion of the filter is bottoming out on the filter housing. Remove the new filter and compare to your old one. The old filter should have a concave shape to it where the threads are. The new filter may be flat. You could install the old filter and retest with the clear tube. I use Motorcraft FD-811 or Wix 33811.

I'm running the wix 33811 and have been having sealing problems with it since the dawn of time. Every six months I pull it off and clean up the mounting surface and such but it just keeps seeping. I've already changed the housing as well. I think I'm going to try the motorcraft this time around

Also to op what electric fuel pump are you running? I has one of those cheap Mr gasket 12d's that are notorious for being junk and it wouldn't push enough to fuel my motors, I went back to the factory mechanical pump and had twice the power..

Get a facet duralift pump. I bought this one and had great success: 9-11.5 PSI MADE IN USA. FACET #40222

what they said^^^
the cheap electric pumps are useless for diesel and will self destruct within a few months. you need a dedicated diesel pump like the facet duralift.
best price i have found for the duralift is here: https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catal...statepump2.php

wow. that is a good price. I think I dropped $30 more than that the last time I got my latest duralift.

A long time ago, there was a guy (I think "Genlightning" or something like that) who used to sell duralifts for something like $75. Miss those days.

Best Price I have seen, so ordered one this morning. I am also going to replace the wix with a Motorcraft filter.

I want to thank you all for your help and information.
