trans question

This has probably been asked before. I have a 95 f150 4wd with a bad trans. It has a code "u" 4r70w. Will any later model trannys interchange?

Later model? You need a trans with SBF bolt pattern so that limits choices to vehicles with those engines which except for the Explorer ended in '96.

But before going there what kind of problem is the trans having? These things are computer controlled and can do some strange things when sensor and wiring problems are encountered.

I have been told that the 4.2 engine had the same bellhousing. That may give me more choices at the boneyard if true.

The trans has to be 4wd to be a direct replacement too.

Hopefully a 4.2 4wd will give me more choices. Just a 95-96 OBS truck may make it harder to find a replacement
