I am looking to purchase a 2003 Expy Eddie bauer. The dealer tells me that it has a heavy duty towing package since the sticker show the class 4 hitch. Nowhere does it really state that it is heavy duty or if it has a tranny cooler. I tow an 8000lb boat and would like to know if these trucks have a cooler installed without going back to the dealer to check. Can anyone confirm this for me?
I have a 2003 EB 4x4, it has a transcooler. If you look in the lower right side of the grill you will see it. The power steering cooler is on the lower left side of the grill.
Towing package includes oil and tranny coolers I just looked it up on Ford.com. It should say in options heavy duty towing package or goto ww.ford.com and build your expy and look at the sticker
Towing package is on all 03's. I think it will be an option on 04's.
By the way, we tow a 7,000 boat with our 03 2wd EB. It actually handles better with the boat than the GMC 2500 HD pickup that we used to use. The Expy does not have the acceleration (5.4 vs. 8.1 liter), but the braking, handling, and ride are all better. I was really suprised at this, as all the advice I got before getting the Expy said it would be overworked towing 7,000 lbs. As many nagging problems as I have with my new truck, I think Ford put their effort into getting the basics (frame, suspension, drivetrain) right and figured they would work out the rest as the model years go on.
